Abstract

Insufficient practices of physical activity, as well as, sedentary behavior are potential risk factors for the emergence of chronic non-communicable diseases. Among the non-communicable chronic diseases associated with both mentioned risk factors, we can highlight cardiovascular diseases that, in addition to being responsible for 17.5 million deaths per year worldwide, are responsible for costly financial expenses due to the increase in use of health services. However, very little exists in the national literature about such an impact on health expenditures in Brazil, as well as how much physical inactivity and sedentary behavior are responsible for such expenditures. Thus, the objective of the present study is to estimate the impact of physical inactivity and sedentary behavior on health care expenditures of SUS secondary care among adults with cardiovascular diseases. To this end, it will be investigated: I) Health expenditures based on estimates of the use of secondary care services and II) presence of physical inactivity and sedentary behavior. The results will be adjusted by demographic characteristics (economic condition, sex and age) and presence of other chronic diseases. ANCOVA will be employed and values of statistical significance (p-value) of less than 5% will be considered statistically different. Expected results: it is expected to quantify the weight of sedentary behavior and physical inactivity (isolated and aggregate) on health spending.
