Abstract

This research aims to study the meanings rural women organised in the gender collective of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST), and in the Peasant Women's Movement (MMC) attribute to land, as of the intensification of feminist debates in these movements in the 1990's/2000's. The goal is to investigate, according to the women's narratives: (i) what meanings they attribute to the land and its uses; (ii) whats meanings they attribute to the struggle for land; (iii) how the rising of rural women's organisations impacts (i) and (ii). From the theoretical-methodological point of view, the narratives of the women from MST and from MMC will be analysed based on the imbrication of the categories of gender, space and class, investigating how this intersection builds meanings and impacts political activism. Complementarily and as demanded by the research field, the racial category will also be articulated. Accompanying these narratives, this research aims to contribute to the construction of definitions of "land" and "feminism" that takes into account the historical experiences of organised rural women. The contribution to an understanding of the brazilian rural world based on the perspective of such women, questioning the possibility of different agrarian developments elaborated by historically marginalised narratives is also intended.
