Abstract Solar atmosphere plasma loses energy through radiation and thermal conduction and thus needs a mechanical heat source to maintain its temperature in equilibrium. In the literature, many theoretical and observational studies show us that magnetohydrodynamic waves can balance the energy in certain regions of the solar atmosphere. These waves allow us to study the gas dynamic in structures such as coronal loops. Most of the studies regarding magnetohydrodynamic waves have focused on the quiet Sun. However, these waves also play an important role during transient events. In this project, we propose to analyse the energy released from longitudinal waves during flaring events. To do so, we will search oscillatory patterns in coronal loops during solar flares. We will extrapolate the magnetic field lines using the force-free linear approximation to find the shape and geometry of these loops. We will then develop a numerical model to study the behaviour of the damping waves along the loops and use the observational values as input parameters for the numerical code. Our model will be extended, to integrate the magnetohydrodynamic equations along our extrapolated magnetic field lines. Thus, we will be able to reproduce the waveform obtained from the observational data. Then, we can analyse the effects of the viscosity and thermal conduction for the profile of the waves obtained. Finally, a comparison between the energy of the damped waves and that released by the flares will be carried out. | |
