Abstract

To the form assumed by the city of São Paulo during the first decades of the twentieth century competing, among other things, the intense economic growth and European architecture, source of models and place of origin of professionals who worked in the city. One of the expressions of the changes of the city was the residential buildings, which introduced spatial arrangements and innovative aesthetic and technical solutions, breaking with the established building standards and cooperating for the diffusion of new architectural languages, such as the Art Nouveau. The style, in spite of the little appropriation in Brazil, has obtained expressive notoriety and plastic distinction in the designs of French architect Victor Dubugras (1868-1933). The present research studies the residential architecture of Victor Dubugras in the city of São Paulo, between 1902 and 1913, seeking to verify how a typology and Art Nouveau are addressed in its projects, which will be investigated in terms of site plan and definition of accesses, program, articulation between interior and exterior spaces, spatial planning, formal treatment and constructive details. The research also proposes to investigate the possible references mobilized in the design of these projects, as well as their position in the design and professional trajectory of Dubugras. (AU)
