Abstract

Introduction: college years are considered a transition period for students, require cognitive and emotional skills, and those on healthcare careers are vulnerable for emotional distress. Objectives: to assess prevalence of suicidal ideation among healthcare college students (medical, nursing and psychology) from a state college; to investigate predictive factors associated with suicidal ideation such as: family relationship, social skills, social support, quality of life, quality of sleep, fatigue, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, stress, religion, leisure, interpersonal relationship, parents expectations, academic problems, substance use and bullying. Participants and method: cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study. Sample size (n = 171) was calculated using the mean occurrence of suicidal ideation among health care students described on the literature (12.67%). FAMERP (Faculdade de Medicina de São José do Rio Preto) medical, nursing and psychology students will be randomized and stratified according to the total number of students in each course. Those selected will be invited to participate by filling the following instruments: Family Apgar, Social Skills Inventory (HIS), Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey - MOS-SSS), WHO Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF), Maslach Burnout Inventory, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Beck Scales of Suicidal Ideation and Hopelessness (BHS and BSI). This project was approved by FAMERP Ethical Committee, CAAE 8412318.0.0000.5415. Data will be analyzed with qualitative and quantitative tests (non-parametric tests, p<0,05).
