About one-third of the gamma-ray sources listed in the third Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) catalog have no firmly established counterpart at lower energies and so are classified as unidentified gamma-ray sources (UGSs). Identifying the low energy counterpart of the UGSs is one of the major scientific challenges faced by the Fermi-LAT Collaboration and is being inspected in many different ways. In this project, a multislit spectroscopy campaign will be performed with the telescopes SOAR and Blanco in an effort to identify the likely blazars among the Fermi-LAT UGSs.
