Abstract

The proponent of this internship abroad has worked in recent years on the thermodynamic aspects of the development of new alloys for use in processing in the semi-solid state, as well as performing metallurgical and microstructural evaluation work in such alloys. However, this research field needs to be deepened in the sub-area of evaluation of the rheological behavior of such slurries, characteristics that propitiate the forming itself. In this way, the applicant requires a four-month period from FAPESP, starting from March 2019, to study the fundamental aspects of semi-solid alloy rheology, with the ultimate objective of developing a methodology for the realization of this experimental characterization in Brazil. In this endeavor, Prof. Reza Ghomashchi has extensive experience as attested by his curriculum. It should be emphasized that the thermodynamic control of the solid-liquid transition, together with the morphological aspects, generate the rheological behavior that, duly studied, allows to generate or create process simulations. The applicant is also interested in establishing partnerships with the University of Adelaide for further development of joint projects, as well as for sending Brazilian students.
