Abstract

The Law 12.651/12, "Law for Native Vegetation Protection", establishes the obligation for all Brazilian rural properties to conserve native vegetation and delegates the responsibility for regulating the rules of adhesion to the PRA - Environmental Regularization Program to each Federal State. São Paulo State has one of the highest agricultural productivity and opportunity cost for forest conservation that allows an expectation that a large part of the environmental regularization will be carried out via Legal Reserve Compensation in properties established in less productivity areas. To ensure the law effectivity for biodiversity and ecosystem services conservation, São Paulo legislation delegates to the state environmental agency the responsibility to indicate priority areas for Legal Reserve Compensation, which should be defined based on socioeconomic and environmental criteria. Within this context, this research proposal presents the objectives of (a) define the agrarian systems typology for agricultural systems established in the lowest agricultural aptitude areas in São Paulo State and (b) evaluate the "willingness to participate" for those typologies in the Legal Reserve Compensation. The research proposal is looking for generate socioeconomic, environmental and agricultural production information about the main typologies found in this region that could be used in definition of priority areas for Legal Reserve Compensation in the State of São Paulo.
