Abstract The main objective of this research is to investigate and to build knowledge - in a comparative perspective between the initiatives undertaken in Lyon, France, and in São Paulo, Brazil - of which transformations contemporary technologies (analogic, digital and hybrid) are producing in the architectural and urban imaginary, that is, in the changing interactions between images - understood as anthropic objects and also as "deformations" produced by our imagination - and the on-site multisensory experience in urban environments. Those interactions present nowadays a cultural and educational potential renewed by mobile devices such as smartphones Web connected to iconographic platforms (curatorial and/or collaborative), able to add digital information (images and texts, fundamentally) from private and institutional collections (GLAMs-Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) to the immediate experience of urban places, a new condition that deeply changes the contribution of representations in daily living and the construction of knowledge about architecture and urbanism. The investigation of this problematic object demands two integrated and complementary fronts, one theoretical-conceptual and another empiric-experimental. This integrated research will thus analyze if and how three French theoretical-conceptual referential sources - the Bachelardian and Durandian theory of the imaginary; the anthropological review of technology as human science, as proposed by Leroi-Gourhan and Haudricourt; and the contributions of the anthropology of technics and digital culture - resonate and make themselves present, in practice, in technological empirical-experimental design activities conducted by Lyon's universities and GLAMs in dealing with original images collections related to the architectural and urban imaginary. Methodologically, this research proposes a dialectic interaction to enable the systematic investigation of meaningful technological practices listed in the empirical-experimental to sustain revisions and critical propositions of the theory and vice versa. | |
