Abstract

This project is part of a larger research that tries to understand the use of some new categories on sexual violence, particularly the term "harassment", focusing on what happened on 20 October 2015 while the exhibit of the cooking show, Masterchef Jr. On this date, some users who had a lot of followers posted on their social network pages messages about the 12 year-old participant, Valentina. Those messages were, for some people on Twitter, qualified as "harassment" and started the campaign #meuprimeiroassedio (my first harassment). The project tries to analyze the posts linked to this hashtag to understand the different ways of qualifying the term harassment and the different narratives made in distinct media, comparing a social media (Twitter) and the impact on the commercial media as well. The goal is to understand how the contest for recognition takes place on the public sphere. So this project tries to understand how gender and violence are enunciated by the different medias.
