Brazilian propolis produced by Apis mellifera, known as green, brown and red, with approximately 200 tons produced per year, are of great economic importance for Brazil, since they are exported to several countries, especially Japan and China. In spite of its wide popular use justified by its diverse biological effects, there are no medicines based on propolis registered at ANVISA to date. In general, there is a need for many studies to be carried out to ensure the safety, efficacy and quality in the development of new medicines based on these natural resources. There is a great demand for chemical, analytical and pharmacological studies, as well as technological development. Therefore, in this postdoctoral project we are proposing to carry out detailed chemical studies of isolation and structural identification of the major and minor metabolites of two distinct classes of propolis, brown and green, since these chemical studies are mandatory to ensure the success of the main scientific and technological objectives presented in the thematic proposal entitled "Attainment of chemical, analytical, biological, pharmacological and technological studies to fill the gaps in the development of the Brazilian propolis sector."
