Abstract

Fapesp - The State of São Paulo Funding Agency of Scientific Researches granted the contract 2014/03085-0 to LACIFID - Laboratory of Ionic Crystals, Thin Films and Dating to carry out "Geochronology of Southeastern Sea Coast of Brazil", a rather extensive project, and the contract 2017/17116-2 Monise Brito Gomes to carry out as her Master work and as part of the project, dating shells and sediments found in the Pântano da Malhada in the region of Búzios, state of Rio de Janeiro. Monise's work is to date the shells and sediments and try to correlate it to sea fluctuations that took place in the period of the Holocene. This proposal is planned to be conducted at the Department of Physics and Chemistry, of the University of Palermo (UNIPA - Palermo/Italy) and it aims to understand the Electronic Spin Resonance (ESR) technique. Dr. Maurizio Leone at University of Palermo, kindly accepted Monise Brito Gomes to spend about three months at his laboratory to give in-depth training in the ESR method. Monise will take with her several samples collected from the Pântano da Malhada not only for training, but to do dating of those samples. Results of sediments dating by Thermoluminescence (TL) method will be used to cross-check the ESR dates. (AU)
