Abstract

This research addresses the close relationship between domestic environment, interior design, architecture and urban policies through the study of iconic modernist houses in São Paulo, such as « Casa de Vidro » and the « Oscar Americano House ». It will also be analyzed the contribution of these two case studies on the constitution process of the Morumbi district, which is inscribed in the suburbanization of the city of São Paulo, regarding the emergence of the « paulistano » lodging concept. In addition to the expressive role played by these houses in the contemporary debate on interior design, the process of musealization (through which both houses went through) provides vast scope for this research, that also contributes to the growing debate about « museum-houses ». Thus, it will be possible to recognize the different significances that the houses, and their respective architects and owners, represent in the context of the urbanization of a portion of the city of São Paulo, as well as the correlation of these symbols into the current condition of protected heritage and museological institutes, and the cultural dynamics that they perform
