Abstract This project proposes to study the effects of spatial heterogeneities on the dynamics of populations. The focus is on highly fragmented areas, like the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. We intend to use numerical methods to solve reaction-diffusion equations e analyze how patterns of persistence, coexistence and exclusion are affected by the spatial arrangement of fragments.
