The doctoral research at Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo of the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP) investigates how digital media can be used to create different ways of perceiving, interacting, and occupying public space. The study analyzes digital media as an architectural element and interface of interaction with the urban environment. The proposal to research as visiting scholar in the Lectorate of Play & Civic Media at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences is to explore the "smart citizen" ecosystem, investigating how media architecture and internet of things can be used in the public space for participatory urban experiences. Based on the theoretical and practical experiences of Play & Civic Media Research Group, it is intended to identify challenges and potentialities of the architecture expanded by the information layers and connected devices. The visiting research aims to deepen concepts and methodologies to work with digital technologies that deal with social participation and occupation of the public environment, investigating how digital media influences the interaction on physical space and the sense of community.
