Abstract

The relationship between public broadcasters and viewers can take place in a variety of contexts, including the adoption of practices of accountability seeking to ensure social responsibility of the media and the credibility of broadcasters. The broad characterization of innovative forms of public participation and governance in the media is included in the objectives of the doctoral investigation to which this project of visiting PhD research student is associated. This research aims to investigate the aspects of development of the practices for accountability and relationship between audience and public broadcasters in the UK broadcasting. This research proposal will be developed in the Centre for Cultural and Media Policy Studies of the University of Warwick in Coventry (United Kingdom) during July and August of 2019. This is the first part of a proposal that was presented to Fapesp in two complementary parts. This first part comprehends the stages of bibliographic research and data collection to be develop in UK institutions. The expected results include increasing the quality of the contribution to be brought to the doctoral project approved by Fapesp, in particular in the understanding of the development of public participation in the media and, following this, the proposal of guidelines for accountability practices and connections between audiences and public broadcasters in Brazil.
