Abstract

The research project aims to investigate the work of a man Julien Raymond who began his political struggle in defense of his category the "free men of color" and ends up gradually expanding his struggle for the freedom of those enslaved by the independence of St. Domingue, a French colony that becomes later Haiti. Raymond, a mestizo man, carries within himself the contradictions of the racial problematic, with the singular condition of literate man and of possessions and that has part of his origin in the slavery. Their initial advocacy of rights acquired by their socio-racial group widens as owners struggle to maintain dominant groups in the context of their construction, their impacts on social struggles in the French colony of St. Dominic, now Haiti, of 1789, the date of the proclamation of the rights of man and of the citizen in France until 1794, when significant struggles were registered for racial equality in the colony and when proclamation of the general liberty of the enslaved took place.
