Abstract

This project proposes the implementation in hardware of a parameterized digital controller, based on type-2 fuzzy logic , to perform the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in a PV system / panel for generation of electricity. The power generated by a photovoltaic (PV) panel varies with solar irradiation and the ambient temperature, with only one point on the P-V curve where the power is maximum, and this point varies with changing ambient conditions. Traditionally, the MPPT control system is implemented by microprocessor or DSP - Digital Signal Processor. In this proposal, the system will be synthesized in FPGA together with all other necessary functional blocks (ADC interfaces, filters, mathematical operators, PWM generator, among others) to perform the data acquisition of voltage signals and output current of PV and also perform the processing of this information in order to obtain the maximum power point value for the various conditions of solar irradiation, ambient temperature and load. Therefore, with this research, we aim to prove that the MPPT controller based on the type-2 fuzzy logic presents a greater precision and fast conversion to the point of maximum power, when subjected to variations of the environmental conditions and also when it is operating in permanent regime, when compared to implementations of MPPT controllers using other techniques cited in the literature.
