Abstract

Migraine is a primary headache with recurrent attacks of moderate/severe headache. Patients with this condition frequently presented balance deficits, vestibular symptoms, and neurotologic alterations. Thus, it is suggested that a vestibular dysfunction have an important role in the imbalance of migraineurs. The objective of the BEPE project is provided to the undergraduate student the opportunity to learn with one of the bests researchers in balance analysis and to improve the knowledge regarding postural control and vestibular system, contributing to study deeper the influence of vestibular symptoms in the balance of patients with migraine. The undergraduate student will follow a project led by Professor Roberto Teggi, "The Role of Saccades and Antisaccades on Navigation Task", that assess the ocular movements in patients with Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD) and use the posturographic exams to investigate the relationship between postural control and that vestibular condition. The student will follow the data collection, processing, and interpretation of the project and of all other projects that will be developing at the same time. Simultaneously, she will follow the neurologist Sandro Iannaccone and the physiotherapist Andrea Tettamenti in their research projects and observed the clinical practice at the rehabilitation center. Finally, discuss the posturographic data of the Brazilian project. With the internship, it is expected that both, the student and the Brazilian group be able to guaranteeing to the patients the best choice of physiotherapeutic treatment. (AU)
