Abstract

The project continues an earlier research conducted in the United Kingdon with the help of FAPESP. The aim is to carry out a field work in the United States about the reception and presence of works of Brazilian literature translated into English. Cultural agents (either persons or institutions) who promote these publications, their diffusion and circulation will be contacted The research activities include interviews (with translators, editors and university teachers), contact with University departments/centers of Brazilian studies, among others. A survey of the main USA newspapers is also intended, so as to compile critical reviews and comments on Brazilian literature and culture, the publication of Brazilian works translated into English and their reception. The theoretical frame of reference for the study will be works based on the Sociology of Pierre Bourdieu as articulated by translation scholars such as Jean-Marc Gouanvic, Michaela Wolf, Johan Heilbron e Gisèle Sapiro.
