Abstract

I propose a theoretical and practical investigation of devices that articulate writing and perceptual exercises involving an expanded notion of performative arts. This concept of "performative writing" includes the act of writing as a practice that can be incorporated into different moments of creative processes, developed and shared in a range of strategies: fragments of scenes, performative actions, lectures etc. It will also be used as "self-writing", in the form of personal diaries produced by practitioners. The intention is that the articulation between the practice of writing and exercises of attention can lead to a deepening of the processes of perception, relationships with language and types of artistic actions. This research into practical procedures is linked to the development of a critical reflexion on modes of perception and the predominant regimes of attention in contemporary societies. In addition to this, there is a discussion of the possibilities of artistic acting in an expanded field of references, incorporating a dialogue with philosophers, scientists, artists from other areas and with traditional wisdom that have developed practices of attention and contemplation, such as Buddhism. These investigations will be undertaken in collaboration with other research centres connected to the Portuguese language, establishing an international network of exchange among researchers, students and artists.
