Lipogenic gene expression in steers subjected to intramuscular injection of vitamin A

Abstract

In Brazil is growing the interest in high quality beef production, with marbling because this trait has a considerable influence in juiciness and tenderness of meat. Cattle management and nutrition until 250 days after birth is important to increase number of adipocytes and probably intramuscular fat content. The purpose of this research will be evaluate effects of Vitamin A intramuscular injection on lipogenic and adipogenic gene expression in bovines F1 Nelore-Montana. Twenty-eight Nellore-Montana castrated males will be used. Randomized blocks design with two treatments (with or without Vitamin A) and two blocks (males and females) will be used. At birth, calves will be subjected to intramuscular dose of vitamin A (30.000 UI). All animals will be weaned at 250 days of age. Biopsies in L.dorsi muscle will be performed 30 days after birth and at weaning. Statistical analyses will be performed through SAS 9.4.
