Abstract

The main objective of this research plan is the development of so-called optical frequency combs (PFOs) based on fentosecond lasers, covering frequencies ranging from 0 to 600 THz. This huge spectral envelope extends from zero frequency (DC) across the entire far infrared region (also called terahertz, 10 THz) and mid infrared (10 THz -100 THz) to near infrared (100-300 THz) and visible (300-600 THz). The focus will be in the terahertz range, so as to fill the missing gap in the above goal. These PFOs will be used for high bandwidth and high precision spectroscopy of molecular gases, with the possibility of applications in high resolution hyper-spectral imaging.
