Abstract

This research aims to evaluate acoustic behavior in different urban spaces in the city of São Paulo. The aim is for the new architects and town planners to consider acoustic comfort and compatibility between the different areas of environmental comfort (acoustic, thermal, lighting, ergonomics and natural ventilation of buildings) from the design of their projects. Acoustic behavior will be evaluated in three buildings of Modernist Architecture, commercial and residential, located in the city of São Paulo: the Conjunto Nacional (1963) building on Paulista Avenue, designed by the architect Daniel Libeskind. Copan Building (1966), at Avenida Ipiranga, designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer and completed by Carlos Alberto Cerqueira Lemos, and the building originally built to be the seat of Banco Sul Americano (1966) and current headquarters of Banco Itaú, Avenida Paulista, the architect Rino Levi. The evaluations will not be carried out only inside the buildings, but also in its exterior, covering both architectural acoustics and urban acoustics. The methods used in the research will be experimental and qualitative (through surveys, interviews and measurements of acoustic parameters, in the field). In addition to understanding the interrelationships of acoustics with other areas of environmental comfort, the research may help in understanding the overall performance of buildings and urban spaces, in order to perform a critical analysis that goes beyond quantitative environmental performance issues to include an architectural perspective to the same and to propose directives of design of buildings and urban spaces for acoustic adequacy.
