Abstract

This project proposes a one-year Research Internship in the Ibero-American Institute (IAI), in Berlin, under the supervision of Dr. Peter Birle. The research developed in Brazil focuses on the period 1970-1973 to analyze the relations established between Chile and Cuba in the cultural sphere, in order to verify to what extent the socialist project connected both countries and how the different paths chosen by the governments to make the revolution reverberated in the intellectual medium. To achieve these objectives, press vehicles from both countries and other documents produced by left-wing intellectuals and politicians were selected as main sources of research. The IAI's collection, which is the largest European library specialized in the Ibero-American cultural space, will allow me easy access to both the selected sources and an important critical bibliography on the subject. Director of the IAI Research Department, Professor at the Freie Universität Berlin and Director of the Revista Iberoamericana, Dr. Birle has extensive experience in the field of political systems and foreign policies in Latin American countries. Apart from the opportunity to discuss the project with him and other researchers of the Institute, including presenting my work in a colloquium, the internship will also allow me to access other German research institutions. Expected gains are the enrichment of my research in quantitative and qualitative terms and its dissemination abroad. At the same time, I will develop a complementary project, having the collection and the activities of the Institute as object of research, in order to write later an article on the current status of studies on the Latin American lefts of the 1960s and 1970s in the major European research centers.
