Abstract

Linear conformation traits can be considered in indirect selection for milk yield and animal welfare because they are easy to measure and can be evaluated early in the animal's life. But for that, it is necessary to know the genetic association between the traits. The objective of this study is to verify if in the Gir breed it is possible modify sixteen linear conformation traits of mammary system traits, feet and legs, corporal dimension as well milking ease and temperament by selection and how these traits interfere with milk production. Besides that, we intend evaluate possible association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) and the study traits. The data set was available by Embrapa Gado de Leite. It will be performed single, two and multi traits analyses to estimates genetic parameters, using Bayesian methodology. Initially, the animal model will include as fixed effects the herd, evaluation season, evaluation year, appraiser, diet and as covariate dam's age at the time of the evaluation or herd, parturition season, parturition year, diet, milking number and the covariate dam's age at the time of the evaluation. The genetic additive, environment and residual will be considered as random effects. The genome-wide study association will be performed using the single-step GBLUP methodology (ssGBLUP). After that, the genes include in the significant regions will be identified using the Bos taurus taurus genome available on the Genome Data Viewer on NCBI and after that the gene enrichment will be performed using DAVID software.
