Abstract

The use of natural products is the most traditional therapeutic resources. Compounds from plant extracts may show therapeutic potential on the central nervous system. In addition, the development of new drugs to help treat neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease, is unquestionable. Furthermore, many patients are resistant to pharmacotherapy or develop side effects due to prolonged use. In this context, myrtenol is a substance found in several plant species and previous studies have demonstrated its anxiolytic, neuroleptic, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsive and antinoceptive properties. However, knowledge about the potential neuroprotective effect of myrtenol on Parkinson's disease is unknown. The aim of the present study is evaluate the administration effect of the myrtenol in a progressive animal model of Parkinson's disease in mice.
