Abstract

The objective of this project is to study the environmental effects of urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) in selected areas of Natal - RN, with emphasis on surface temperature conditions, air temperature, relative humidity and the heterogeneity of the built urban environment. Thus, Monteiro's Urban Climate System (U.C.S.) (1976) will be used as a theoretical assumption to frame the complexity and specificity of the UPA areas in the context of the city of Natal - RN. The proposed methodology is centered on field observation, the use of remote sensing techniques and procedures, in order to produce thermal maps and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), allowing the analysis of the temperature intensities in the diagnosis of the urban heat islands of surface, in addition to the installation of sensors to measure air temperature and relative humidity at fixed points previously defined. In addition to these procedures, Monteiro's theoretical-methodological proposal of the rhythmic analysis (1971) will be used, with the intention of demonstrating the habitual succession of the types of time in the city during the development of the research. In the analysis of the results and in accordance with the proposed objective, it is sought to identify the interference / effect of the areas destined to urban and peri-urban agriculture in the thermal and hygrometric characteristics of the city of Natal in order to demonstrate the levels of temperature intensity between the targets of urban and peri-urban agriculture in relation to densely built areas, in order to characterize their importance in the context of the urban climate and environmental quality of Natal - RN.
