Abstract

This undergraduate research is linked to the Center for Metropolitan Studies (CEPID-FAPESP). The research seeks to conduct a normative analysis on issues associated with distributive justice and global health. The main research objective is to present a normative argument on the identification of global priorities of population health. As vast literature has shown, significant rates of inequality in population health are found inside the countries, but even higher are the rates of inequality in health among countries. Such inequality rates in population health may be of concern from a global justice perspective; however, the normative relevance of global health issues becomes even more important when we consider the poor health conditions - of very low health and well-being situations, with the presence of serious diseases, high rates of infant mortality and low life expectancy - which are localized in the worst-off population groups in some countries. Considering that health resources are scarce, both locally and globally, an urgent question that the present research will seek to analyze -based on a systematic study of the literature on the theme and on the empirical phenomena associated with global health - concerns to the identification of global priorities in population health, which should guide the agendas and actions of International Organizations and humanitarian health aids.
