Abstract

Chronic musculoskeletal pain in the shoulder complex is a condition with a high prevalence in the general population and becomes responsible for restrictions on performing daily life activities and practical life activities. The negative behavioral and psychological aspects seem to influence the level of social participation, the perception of pain, the level of function and activity and the prognosis of the clinical picture; however, such relations are still not well established in the literature. Thus, the primary objective of this study will be to evaluate, through a biopsychosocial approach, the contribution of behavioral and psychological aspects in the domains of the International Classification of Functionality (CIF): social participation, function and activity of individuals with chronic shoulder pain. Secondary goals will involve verifying relationships between behavioral, psychological, functional and time aspects of pain. We will evaluate 75 individuals with a major complaint of shoulder pain, with pain intensity equal to or greater than 3 points for at least 3 months. First, the contribution of kinesiophobia, fear-avoidance and catastrophic beliefs in social participation, function, and activity will be examined by multiple linear regression models. The contribution of anxiety and depression to social participation, function and activity will also be examined by multiple linear regression models. Correlation tests will be used to examine the correlations between pain time and behavioral aspects and function, and between behavioral and psychological aspects. The most impaired functional activities in this population will be identified through the descriptive analysis of frequencies and the calculation of the average of the scores of each activity. (AU)
