Abstract

The present research is about the unfolding and continuation of the theme analyzed in the doctoral thesis. Despite the prominence of the businessman and writer João Soares Lisboa in the debates of independence and construction of the State and the Nation of Brazil, his public trajectory was little explored in the historiography, especially the period of his exile in Buenos Aires (1822-1823). This gap is now sought to fill with the analysis of his Hispanic-American experience, reviewed, in part, by the references of the History of Concepts, inspired by the definitions of modernity and the category of experience of R. Koselleck's works. It is intended to examine concepts, but also learning and political experiences that were fundamental both in the radicalization of the ideas published in the Correio do Rio de Janeiro, drafted in prison, and in its adherence to the republican principles of the Confederation of Ecuador, for which he died in combat (1824). In order to do so, exile will be investigated mainly through journals, memoirs, proclamations, biographies and letters, about and produced in Buenos Aires, from the years of 1810 until and especially during the early years of the 1820s. Thus, John Soares Lisboa, considered an Atlantic character, represented a group of liberal political culture and an entire era in the construction of the first liberalism in America. (AU)
