Abstract

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral characteristics, with numerous applications in medicine. On the other hand, the envenoming caused by Philodryas olfersii (Dipsadidade) snake induce edema (swelling), erythema and bruises (dark spots), regional lymphadenopathy (lymphonodes dilation), neurotoxic and myotoxic effects. The symptomatology of this poisoning is similar to that seen with bothropic ("jararaca") envenoming, by the presence of similar biological constituents. Epidemiologically the incidence of accidents caused by P. olfersii is low due to anatomy of teeth, since there are opisthoglyphic snakes, i.e., they have the inoculator teeth at the bottom of the mouth, in the posterior portion of the maxilla, hindering the venom inoculation. The venom of P. olfersii induce an in vitro neuromuscular blockade in mouse and chick preparations, being more sensitive in avian than in mouse. For this reason, in this project, silver nanoparticles will be tested on the neurotoxic effect in vitro of Philodryas olfersii snake venom, in chick biventer cervicis preparations.
