Several non newtonian fluids are usual to the industry and society, as an example, fresh concrete, drilling mud and soil. Because of their rheological properties, their behaviour is complex and hard to predict. The development of computational models to such fluids could be a promising alternative for research. In special the particle based methods, with Lagrangian description, developed to simulate flows with free surface, large deformations and interactions with rigid or deformable solids, as the Moving Particle Semi-Implicit and the Smoothed-Particle Hydrodynamics. In these methods, the viscous term of the momentum conservation equation is explicitly calculated. Therefore, diffusion predominant phenomena, as usually are non newtonian fluid flows, require very small time steps because of the stability constraint, and results in very high computational costs in some cases. The purpose of this project is to develop the algorithm and investigate the efficiency of the implicit approach to calculate the viscous term to model non newtonian fluids on a particle method. The expected results are the implementation and validation of the implicit approach to non Newtonian fluids and the modelling and investigation of common engineering applications.
