Abstract

Obesity and aging are factors related to the development of chronic diseases of high incidence in current societies, such as insulin resistance, dyslipidemias and cardiovascular diseases. Recent studies have shown that obesity is characterized by increased cell senescence, in addition to adipose tissue remodeling and metabolic dysfunction. Previous studies of our group have demonstrated that deletion of miRNA-22 attenuates adipose tissue gain and dyslipidemia induced by the high fat diet, suggesting the participation of this miRNA in metabolic dysfunction induced by obesity. The expression of miRNA-22 is increased during aging and its overexpression in different cells types was reported to induce the expression of cellular senescence markers. Considering that miRNA-22 and obesity stimulate cell senescence, the aim of the present study is to characterize the impact of miRNA-22 deletion on adipose tissue senescence and metabolic dysfunctions promoted by obesity.
