Abstract

Detailed reading of literary works that were awarded by the Portuguese Colonial Literature Contests (1926-1951) and the Overseas Literature Contests (1954-1971) and which are recognized as an integral part of the National Literature of the Portuguese-speaking African Countries. The circumstance will be investigated in the collection of Portuguese public institutions, notably the National Library, the Overseas Historical Archive and the PIDE / DGS Archive of Torre do Tombo. The historical and ambiguous position of these works determines a more accurate evaluation, which problematizes them from the senses that were perceived by the members of the jurisdictions of the contests, the editors, the critics and the censors, if appropriate, by the counterpoint to the nationalist senses that led them to be claimed by the national literature of the Portuguese-speaking African Countries. From the research will emerge a more precise and less schematic picture for the literary histories, still to be fixed, of these countries
