Abstract

This project seeks the analysis of two north-American newspapers, one from New York, and the other one from South Carolina. In the intent to comprehend how the Triple Alliance War against Paraguay was treated on those newspapers. It is based on those discussions developed in the contemporary and Brazil classes, and on those debates promoted in the lecture group focused in XVII and XIX centuries. It is presumed that, the decades of 1860-1870, consisted in an intense and violent process of world reconfiguration in many ways. In these context, we could locate the American Civil War (1861-1865) and Triple Alliance War against Paraguay (1864-1870) two long and ultraviolent conflicts, which represents, in distinct ways, the burden of slavery, republicanism and the construction of the Nation-States in America. The conflicts occurred in a context of enormous development of media, in specific the newspapers, which composes a strategic role for this study, which will work by the press, the economic, diplomatic and political aspects of the conflicts.
