Abstract

Arterial hypertension affects more one billion people around the world, being one of the most prevalent diseases. Arterial hypertension is a risk factor for stroke and heart attack increasing health care costs. On the other hand, higher physical activity has been related to lower health care costs, since physical activity is able to effect both prevention and treatment of many diseases, such as AH. To the best of our knowledge, there is no forecast about the economic burden of AH on primary care services offered by the Brazilian National Health Service. Moreover, most of studies assessing economic aspects on Brazilian National Health Service are cross-sectional in design and use simple statistical and economic approaches, which seems not complex enough to capture ate the same time the impact of both AH and physical activity on health care costs. Objective this study based in the challenge of dominate new statistical and economic approaches in order to create effective physical activity interventions targeting to mitigate the burden of chronic diseases on Brazilian National Health Service. The sample was composed of adults with age ranging from 30 to 65 years-old. Health care costs in primary and secondary level of attention will be the main outcome of this research and methods previously validated will be used to assess them. AH will be assessed by medical records. Physical activity will be assessed during the interview using a previously validated questionnaire and and will be used as moderation variable. Will be assessed in order to adjust the statistical models: sex, chronological age and economic condition, the previous diagnosis of other chronic diseases, waist circumference and the presence of overweight / obesity. For this study we will use statistical approach called "Latent Growth Curve Analysis" (LGCA)
