Abstract

From the perspective of Economic Sociology, taking into account the statement that markets are social constructions (SWEDBERG, 2004; BOURDIEU, 2000; ABRAMOVAY, 2004; JARDIM, 2012), this project intends to analyze the market of allowed firearms in Brazil, considering that it is a contested market, that is, a market in which its logic penetrates sensitive areas such as people's privacy, integrity, health, or the ability to maintain public order (STEINER e TRESPEUCH, 2014). We will look at the contestations surrounding the existence of this market and its flow and counterflow through the axis of unrestricted legalization, regulated legalization and banishment, seizing the devices that define the possibilities of the market. We will also analyze the vulnerable populations that are affected by both the growth and the decline of the market in question and give shape to the mentioned devices. The theoretical basis is in economic sociology, especially in Phillipe Steiner and Marie Trespeuch's contribution to contested markets, it is also important to highlight the importance of the concept of a device as worked by Foucault (1994) and other sociologists who in different ways use the concept in their work (CALLON, MILLO and MUNIESA 2007, KARPIK 2010).
