The goal of this project is to detect the conceptions of (1) language; (2) writing; and (3) teaching writing in prefaces and intertitles (paratexts) from eight Portuguese school books published between 1930 and 2002. For this purpose, we followed, as broad theoretical basis, the studies of Applied Linguistics in a discursive view, and, more specifically, the concepts of make it strange (GINZBURG, 2001 [1998]) and writing acts (FRAENKEL, 2007; 2018). Both concepts were drafted in the fields of History and Writing Anthropology, respectively. Our research is based on the analysis of paratexts in their graphic layout and publishing aspects, particularly in their graphics and writing acts. (AU)
