Abstract

This project aims to analyze the novel The Passion of New Eve, by the English writer Angela Carter, considering the construction of the female characters and their gender relations, under the light of the manuscript that may be examined at the British Library in London. The main objective is to contrast the manuscript with the published version of the novel to see whether there have been any significant changes made by the author regarding the female characters and their gender performances. This research will be based on the works of gender theorists, especially Judith Butler. In addition to the analysis of the manuscript, this project seeks to gather more critical material on the novel and biographical work about Carter as well as her journals located at the British Library. Such materials may contribute to the main Masters research and most of them cannot be found in Brazil such as her journals, for example. (AU)
