Abstract

Inflammatory diseases are directly related to the development of a microbial biofilm on the surface of the biomaterial, along with the response of the individuals' immune system. Due to resistance to commonly used antibiotics, investigations focused in the search of other alternatives for the treatment of MRSA infections are continuously being held. The objective of this study will be to develop, characterize and evaluate the bactericidal activity of silver tungstate based coatings on titanium surfaces. The a-Ag2WO4 microcrystals will be synthesized by the co-precipitation method and characterized by XDR, high resolution Raman, FE-SEM, TEM and EDS. Ag2WO4 films will be prepared in titanium circular specimens irradiated in femtosecond laser and characterized by different techniques. The effect of titanium deposited films on the adhesion of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) to substrates will be assessed. At the end of the research, it is expected to develop an antimicrobial surface from the deposition of Ag2WO4 on a titanium surface.
