Abstract

The project proposes to research and develop a new origami design applied to medical instruments, developing methodologies that allow designing instruments in the area of gynecology using the technique known as orimimetics, that is, the use of mechanical folds in solving problems. To this end, a review of the state of the art is proposed, based on a bibliographical survey of the most recent articles published on origami structures applied to medical devices, in order to analyze what has already been developed within the theme and how the design problems were solved. After interviews and questionnaire, gynecologist’s investigators pointed out two instruments that need redesign: vaginal speculum and laparoscopy bag. The research's main objective is to develop knowledge in origami design in order to generate innovations at the medical area. The hypothesis of innovation of the prototypes developed in a qualitative, practical and experimental area will be analyzed and discussed, by means of the data collection as tests of strength and structural deformation, choice of materials, types of planned projection, types of folding geometry, and tests for use with medical researchers. It is intended, at the end of the research, that the new device, with new features and less invasive, is ready to be patented and available to be produced. (AU)
