Abstract

Introduction: Population aging has been shown in evidence. We highlight improvements and investments in programs to support the elderly and their families, in the social and health areas. Some programs, projects and services gain evidence of care and provide support and assistance to families and the elderly in need of care through comprehensive institutional care. Long-term care institutions for the elderly, also known as asylums, shelters or rest homes, are highlighted. Objective: To verify the reason for the applications of vacancies in the Long-term care institutions for the elderly in two cities São Carlos and Araraquara, São Paulo state. Methodology: This scientific initiation study is part of an ongoing study. It is a qualitative, descriptive and retrospective research. The analysis will be done through the thematic content, checking the data of a database of the research group, analyzing the reason for the search of vacancy in the Long-term care institutions for the elderly. The collection of this study will occur between July and October of the year 2019, at the place where the data is stored. The verified data will refer to the period of 12 months of the collection of the two municipalities, in São Carlos (out-2018 to September 2019) and Araraquara (May-2018 to january-2020). All ethical principles have been applied. Expected results: It is expected to verify the reason for the search for vacancies in the Long-term care institutions for the elderly, understanding the motivations and relating to the existing public policies in the two cities.
