Abstract

The research I intend to make at the Scholl for Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London has as its main purpose to survey and to analyse the most relevant works published on the concept of crisis in the theoretical field of Marxism since 2008. It must be an actualization of the studies I made for my doctoral thesis presented in 1994 and published in 1998 with the title O negativo do capital. With the outbreak of the economic crisis in the year 2008, lots of works have being written about the theme and a detailed analysis of them must be done in order to connect the new ideas they bring with the ideas exposed in my book, which is soon going to be printed in English by Brill publisher. In my view, this next publication represents a perfect opportunity to enlarge the circle of my dialogue partners on the subject of crisis and to make known outside the Brazilian academic context my conclusions about the modalities of realization of crisis. But for that it will be essential for me to get familiar to the recent debate on the theme, a task that could only be done with a research stay in the SOAS. (AU)
