Abstract Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions, affecting 2-3% of the world's population. Such disorder may be related to the impairment of quality of life, mainly in cases associated with psychiatric comorbidities. Approximately 6% of patients with epilepsy (PWE) present concurrent psychiatric disorder, mainly depression and anxiety. Several studies were designed to determine the prevalence of anxiety and depression in this subpopulation; however, a few investigated factors related to the higher frequency and severity of such comorbidities. Thus, we aim to investigate the prevalence and severity of such disorders in PWE, comparing different syndromes and also the occurrence of these symptoms in caregivers. We will perform a multivariate analysis of clinical and epidemiological predictors through the application of validated screening tools. In addition, we intend to investigate the impact of anxiety/depression on brain connectivity by analyzing the resting state in patients with focal epilepsy. (AU) | |
