Abstract

Paper is a low-cost, affordable and disposable platform that has been used as a substrate for chemical sensors in recent years and its use represents an alternative for carrying out chemical analysis in regions with limited resources. The manufacture of flow injection analysis systems using paper as a substrate instead of conventional FIA apparatus is still under-explored, requiring refinement for field application. Therefore, this project aims the study of microfluidic paper devices and its fabrication methods, as well as the integration of the electrochemical sensors directly on the substrate surface, through printing, laser scribing techniques and other techniques. The developed sensors will be characterized by different surface and characterization techniques. In addition, based on the paper properties, it will also be studied the possibility to propose the sensor manufacture as a paper swab to collect samples directly on contaminated surfaces aiming at forensic applications.
