Abstract

Conceptions about psychic suffering and models of attention to mental health vary throughout history. Period after World War II was marked by attempts of avoiding atrocities commited during war and had boosted Human Rights appreciation and spread of psychosocial paradigms on sanitary and social fields. Throughout the world Psychiatric Reform Movements turned to support better treatment conditions to people in mental distress, considering them in their dignity and autonomy. Despite advances brought by those Reforms, current context put challenges to national systems of health care with tendencies to privatization and dissolution attempts of conquered rights. Nowadays we see the increase of mental disorder diagnoses all along the world. However, current answers to the crisis of psychiatry and to the threats to community models of attention have been settle upon the medicalization of society. In Brazilian context, Mental Health Community Group (GCSM) is an innovative strategy that brings Psychiatric Reform concepts of health and human person together. Currently, GCSM working method is in its expansion stage and it has proved to be an effective tool on varied contexts. The present project goal is to go deep in the analysis of group method relating it to bioethics theme, human rights and current cultural and political contexts. Project development is going to have the orientation of Prof. Manuel Desviat and Prof. Ana Maria Marcos del Cano both of them references researchers on mental health, bioethics and human right fields.
