Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the prevalence of Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH), the clinical performance of new treatment possibilities for hypersensitive hypomineralized teeth and the parents' perception regarding the treatment possibilities proposed for this condition, according to their different degrees of severity. This study will be divided into three subprojects. Subproject I, will evaluate the prevalence of HMI, considering the different variables, such as gender, age and degree of severity. It will be held in the city of Bauru, with 1,486 children aged 6 to 10 years from municipal public schools. The examinations will be performed by 2 examiners previously calibrated using the index of Ghanim et. al for HMI and ICDAS for caries. Subproject II will evaluate treatments for hypersensitivity of hypomineralized teeth. Sixty patients will be selected from subproject I who have teeth with HMI without loss of structure, without caries and with hypersensitivity (2 and 3 on the SCASS scale), which will be randomized between the groups: Fluoride varnish (control); Titanium tetrafluoride varnish (experimental I) and s-PRG light-curing bioactive varnish (experimental II). Hypersensitivity assessment will be performed using three instruments: Wong-Baker Facial Scale (WBFS), Schiff Cold Air Sensitivity Scale (SCASS) and FLACC Pain Scale 1, 2, 4 and 6 months after treatment. In Subproject III, parents' perception regarding the proposed treatment possibilities for HMI will be evaluated. Initially, the health literacy of parents participating in the study will be assessed through the instrument (REALMD-20). Volunteers will receive the Part I of the "Parental Perception Assessment Questionnaire regarding the possibilities of HMI treatment", which presents test questions (Yes or No) related to knowledge about HMI. This step will end with the question "Do you think any of your children have HMI?", And the veracity of the answer will be confirmed later by a clinical examination by the researcher. After, a lecture lasting 15 to 20 minutes will be held, using appropriate language, clarifying all aspects initially addressed in part I and explaining the treatment alternatives for HMI, their advantages and disadvantages. Then, part II of the questionnaire will be applied, which contemplates several clinical situations illustrated with photographs of teeth with HMI in different degrees of severity. The same clinical situation will be repeated twice, one associated with hypersensitivity and the other not. Faced with each situation mentioned above, the possibilities of treatment will be exposed in increasing radicalism, so that the participant can identify the best treatment under his or her views. In both parts and for all aspects, it will be proposed that the study participant records on a scale his degree of confidence (Likert Scale). In the statistical analysis of the subprojects the normality and homogeneity tests will be applied to determine the use of parametric or nonparametric tests, a significance level of 5% will be considered.
