Abstract

This research project is on evidence and precedent based school design to support the design process of learning environments for the 21st century and the dynamics in education that create uncertainties. The goal of the study is to analyse and organize school building research results for future transformation into design patterns and their graphic representation. A systematic literature review will be extended with the confirmation of evidences through precedent evaluation of key examples of middle schools in Australia. Evaluation methods developed by the LEaRN (Learning Environments Applied Research Network) group of the School of Design (Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning) of the University of Melbourne will be applied. Research activities will be under the leadership of Professor Dr. Benjamin Cleveland, Senior Lecturer and Associate Director of LEaRN. This research proposal is related to an on-going study in Brazil with the English translated title of: "School architecture supported by evidence based design: dynamics in education and their environmental impacts".
