Abstract

Jupiter is a powerful source of Decametric radio (DAM) waves, whose origin is associatedto electron precipitation by Cyclotron-Maser Instability (CMI). It has been known for decades thatthe location of the satellite Io affects Jupiter's DAM emissions, which is explained by the Io-Jupiterelectromagnetic interaction. The flow of Jupiter's magnetospheric plasma carrying magnetic fieldonto the moon produces field-aligned currents which are propagated to Jupiter's ionosphere byAlfvén waves. Those currents transport energy to the ionosphere, causing bright spots of ultravioletemissions at the satellite's footprint. Thus, the identification of the bright spots in Ganymede andEuropa's footprints with UV observations indicates that the same interaction occurs between eachof these satellites and Jupiter, and, then, that they also may control Jupiter's DAM emissions.Recently, Ganymede's control of the DAM emissions have been identified and evidences of controlby Callisto and, mainly, by Europa have also been observed. Therefore, the main objective of thisresearch project is to investigate the control of Jupiter DAM emissions by Europausing the radio database from the Nançay Decametric Array (NDA), and to make a statisticalanalysis of the properties of the Europa-dependent emissions (Eu-DAM).
